Sugar Mamas Custom Cakes opened for business in March of 2004. Our goal is to provide a quality product with a special awareness to detail and design. Each customer's request is a special challenge to us to meet or exceed their expectations.

Executive Pastry Chef Emily Kimmel

Sugar Mamas Cakes is owned and operated by Executive pastry Chef Emily Kimmel. Emily has an Associates of Applied Science Degree in Baking and Pastry Arts and graduated magna cum laude. Emily was awarded five distinctive scholarships, including the Bonita Marley Scholarship, for her community service. Many may even remember Emily as the 1999 Old Settler's Queen for the Old Settler's Festival in Mooresville. This honor is awarded in Morgan County, including Emily's favorite charity, the Morgan County Humane Society which was awarded $1,000 from Emily's fund raising efforts.

Emily, at age 32, already has twelve years experience in professional cake design and actually took her first Wilton decorating class at age 12. Her talent was developed and enhanced by well known chefs, such as Pastry Chef Linda Shonk of Sweet Art Gallery and Choc-o-pan Fondant and Pastry Chef Debbie Sparks of the "original" Cake Box. Emily has been featured in the Indianapolis Star, Martinsville Reporter, Mooresville Times, Mooresville magazine and the Morgan County Business Leader.

Emily's clientelle refer to her as the "best kept secret" in central Indiana. Emily has designed cakes and cookies for national sports teams, governors, 5 star hotels and several fortune 500 corporations.


General Manager and Sous
Chef Mary Ann Henderson

Mary Ann Henderson, general manager and sous chef, is waiting to serve you at Sugar Mamas Cakes. Mary Ann has worked in the retail business for over 30 years, including merchandising, customer service and sales. Her experience also includes 15 years in the wedding industry as well as an established award winning professional wedding and portrait photographer. Baking has always been a hobby of Mary Ann's, but she developed her baking and pastry skills from studying at Ivy Tech's Baking and Pastry Arts School. Mary Ann manages our office, handles the telephone, meets with clients and assists Chef Emily in the kitchen. And yes, if you are wondering, they are related. Mary Ann is Emily's mom.

Our Shop

Sugar Mamas Cakes specializes in custom wedding designs and all occasion party cakes. Each order is baked fresh in our kitchen and our icing is made from scratch with fresh butter and real vanilla extract.

Sugar Mamas Cakes has several wedding and party cakes on display for our guests to view. There are hundreds of photographs of our wedding and party cakes on our website and Faceook page to help customers choose or design their own special cakes.

 

How And When To Order

Party cakes may be ordered by telephone or email, but if it's your first time we encourage you to visit our shop to see what we have to offer. Party cake orders are encouraged to have a scheduled appointment time and require a deposit. Please remember we often book 3 - 6 weeks in advance, or longer, so ORDER EARLY!

Wedding cake orders should call for an appointment time for a free consultation where we will give you an exact estimate and a box of our white and chocolate cake for you to take home. These appointments are done on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The wedding consultation is limited to 3 people per session. Due to the demand it is suggested to book your cakes 6 - 12 months in advance.
